Christie & Doug’s Sci-Fi themed wedding
How We Met: and created a sci-fi themed wedding, Christie and Douglas met during the summer of 2010, through friends. After exchanging short messages and likes through Facebook wall posts during the fall and winter, Douglas asked Christie on a date in January of 2011. On that first date, Christie brought her custom light saber to show to Douglas, knowing that he was just as big a Star Wars fan as she was. Originally, they were supposed to grab drinks and head to a movie afterward, but ended up enjoying talking to one another so much that they ended up skipping the movie and just enjoying each other’s company for the evening. From that night on, Christie and Douglas were constantly talking, discussing everything that they liked and loved, including a mutual appreciation for comics like Green Lantern and movies like Star Wars. By February, Christie and Douglas were officially a couple and eventually got engaged in September of 2014.The Engagement:On September 5, 2014, Christie and Douglas arrived in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for their yearly vacation with Christie’s parents. Christie and her family had been traveling to Myrtle Beach almost every year since she was a child, and once she started dating Doug, she wanted to show him one of her favorite places, filled with memories from so many years before. On that trip, however, Christie was unaware that Douglas was planning on making a memory himself. Christie is a marine scientist who studies jellyfish, and one of her favorite pastimes in Myrtle Beach is walking down by the surf, looking for jellyfish that may have washed up. Douglas capitalized on this fact and asked Christie if she wanted to hit the beach to look for jellyfish, and the two headed down onto the sand. While walking along the beach, it began to rain and ultimately thunderstorm, forcing them to cut their walk short and head back to the hotel. On the walk back, they were soaked by the rain, which began letting up as they approached the hotel. As Christie began to look for jellyfish down the by water once again, Douglas asked if she wanted to come up away from the water a little bit. Curious as to how she would be able to find jellyfish away from the water, Christie questioned Douglas, suddenly realizing that he had a very good reason for his request. Christie walked up onto the dry sand, where Douglas began a thoughtful, sentimental speech about all of the wonderful things she had been to him over the years, getting down on one knee and asking her to be the one thing that she wasn’t yet: his wife. Christie’s response was an enthusiastic “Yes!” and the two celebrated the rest of a very special week in Myrtle Beach. The Wedding:Christie and Douglas knew that they wanted to have a wedding that was cozy and romantic, but that also showed off their personalities. Instead of choosing a theme for the wedding, they decided that the theme of the wedding would be the bride and groom themselves: a Tardis Card Box, an ocean-inspired color palette, as well as Mulder and Scully Funko Pop figures as their wedding cake toppers. They decided that The Mill at Spring Lake Heights in Spring Lake Heights, NJ, would be the perfect atmosphere for the couple to celebrate with their closest friends and family.
